Living In Recovery

A Step Towards a Sober Future

LIR operates 2 houses for men and 1 house for women in Howard County. Each house accommodates 5 to 8 residents, creating a family environment of fellowship and support. There is no time limit for the stay, but most residents usually live in the houses for 6 to 12 months.

What to Expect at a Living In Recovery Residence

Life at a Living In Recovery residence is structured around routines and responsibilities that aid in the recovery process. Here’s what you can expect when you become a part of the LIR family:

  1. Five Recovery Activities Weekly

Engaging in recovery activities is a crucial part of the healing process. These activities can include, but are not limited to, AA/NA meetings, therapy/counseling sessions, Smart Recovery meetings, faith-based meetings, and more.

  2. Obtain a Sponsor & Home Group

It's essential to have a support system throughout your recovery. LIR requires residents to find a sponsor and join a home group.

  3. Random Testing for Drugs and Alcohol

To ensure the environment remains clean and conducive to recovery, LIR conducts random tests for drugs and alcohol.

  4. Obtain and Maintain Employment

Economic independence is a crucial facet of recovery. LIR assists and expects residents to secure and maintain a job.

  5. Develop a Personal Recovery Plan

Every resident is encouraged to develop a personal recovery plan. This plan is a roadmap that prepares them to transition to more independent living.

  6. Weekly Rent Payment

Residents are required to pay their rent on a weekly basis. This fosters a sense of responsibility and discipline.

  7. Provide Your Own Food

Residents are expected to provide their own food, promoting self-reliance and basic life skills.

  8. Weekly House Meetings

Regular house meetings ensure everyone is on the same page and any issues can be addressed promptly.

  9. Shared Chores

Living in a LIR house is a communal experience. Residents are expected to share chores and be good housemates.

  10. Room Occupancy

Each bedroom can accommodate one or two occupants, as decided by the house manager.

  11. Guest Policy

Daytime guests are permitted with prior notice, but no overnight guests are allowed. This policy is in place to maintain a focused and supportive environment.

Living In Recovery is more than just a residence, it’s a program that empowers residents to be responsible, self-sufficient, and part of a supportive community. It prepares residents for life after recovery and gives them the tools they need to maintain their sobriety in the long run. Whether you are in the process of recovery or know someone who could benefit from such a program, Living In Recovery could be your first step towards a brighter, sober future.
